travel europe germany schleswig holstein lubeck marien kirche

The historically rich old Hanseatic city of Lubeck in graced with seven church spires, one of which is the impressive Marienkirche.
Sitting across the Marketplatz from the Rathaus, it is called the most outstanding church in Lubeck, and possibly in northern Germany.
It features flying buttresses and towering windows.
Although some of its greatest treasures were destroyed in 1942, after the fire was put out, earlier painted decorations were discovered on the walls and clearstory.
During a World War II air raid, the church bells fell from the tower and embedded themselves in the floor where they can be seen today.
